Bishop Thomas A. Daly

Bishop Thomas Anthony Daly is a native of San Fransisco, California and is the seventh Bishop of Spokane.

Bishop Daly was born on April 30, 1960, baptized at St. Brendan Catholic Church in San Fransisco and educated at St. Brendan’s parochial school.

He attended De La Salle Christian Brothers High School in Concorde and later the University of San Francisco, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1982. He then entered seminary with the Archdiocese of San Francisco and received his formation from St. Patrick Seminary and University in Menlo Park.

Bishop Daly was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop John Quinn at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco on May 9, 1987. He was appointed the parochial vicar of Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Novato and a teacher and campus minister at Marin Catholic High School in Kentfield.

In 1992, he began full-time ministry at Marin High School, serving on the faculty for over ten years.

Pope Benedict XVI named Daly auxiliary bishop of San Jose and titular bishop of Tabalta on March 16, 2011. He was consecrated bishop on May 25, 2011, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Joseph in San Jose by Bishop Patrick McGrath, with Archbishop George Niederauer and Bishop George Thomas as co-consecrators.

On September 16, 2013, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone named Daly the archdiocesan seminary's interim president/rector. Daly was the seminary's first rector who did not belong to the Society of St. Sulpice.

Pope Francis named him the seventh Bishop of Spokane on March 12, 2015.  Bishop Daly was installed on May 20, 2015, in Spokane's Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. He currently serves as the chairman of the USCCB Committee of Catholic Education and is the national chaplain for Serra International.
