As Catholics and other Christians prepared to enter the final days of Lent, word came from across the world that four Missionaries of Charity, Blessed Mother Teresa’s Sisters, were brutally murdered in the country of Yemen by ISIS.
The seminary has received financial support from the people of the Spokane Diocese since the school opened in 1961. As a result of the efforts of the seminarian students, faculty, and God’s grace, the Diocese of Sololá has more priests than any other diocese in Guatemala: one priest for every 7,000 Catholics.
On Friday, March 4, people gathered to honor Bishop William Skylstad, Bishop Emeritus of the Spokane Diocese, and the steering committee of the Columbia River Pastoral Letter, titled “The Columbia River Watershed: Caring for Creation and the Common Good – An International Pastoral Letter by the Catholic Bishops of the Watershed Region.”
In this holy season of Lent, the Church accompanies Jesus on the road to Jerusalem. Jesus calls each of us to move from where we are to where God wants us to be. He summons us to be united with Him in His Passion and Death, so as to share in His Resurrection. He calls us to be saints.
