Spokane, Wash., July 16, 2020 – Sr. Madonna Buder, affectionately known as the “Iron Nun” due to her competing in 45 Ironman distances, is holding an auction of her sporting gear worn throughout her storied competitive career that will benefit local charities SNAP, Family Promise of Spokane, Nazareth Guild and Catholic Charities Eastern Washington. The online auction, which can be accessed at www.cceasternwa.org/go-iron-nun, begins taking bids Friday, July 24, 2020 at 11am and will end on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at 11:59pm. Auction items include a Cannondale Bike given to the Iron Nun for earning “the Spirit of Determination Award” during the 2006 Hawaiian Ironman and used for the NIKE commercial during the 2016 Olympics.
Sr. Madonna Buder is a Roman Catholic religious sister and Senior Olympian triathlete. She holds the current world record for the oldest woman to ever finish an Ironman Triathlon, which she obtained at the age of 82 by finishing the Subaru Ironman Canada on August 26, 2012. In 2014, Buder was inducted into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame.
