David Hass not permitted to perform or speak in the diocese; music to be discontinued
by Rev. Darrin Connall, VG
For your information:
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles and the Archdiocese of Minneapolis-St. Paul are actively investigating multiple allegations of sexual misconduct by David Hass, a well-known composer of liturgical songs used in Catholic liturgies. GIA Publications has suspended its sponsorship and publishing relationship with Mr. Hass. The Archdiocese of Minneapolis is no longer providing him a letter of suitability.
Several women have stepped forward to indicate that the ongoing use of Mr. Haas’s music in the liturgy is a source of great pain. Therefore, pending the outcome of this investigation, David Hass is not authorized to perform or speak in the Diocese of Spokane. Moreover, pastors are asked to discontinue the use of his liturgical songs.
The Diocese of Spokane remains committed to addressing claims of sexual misconduct and abuse at the hands of a church employee, volunteer, member of the clergy or a speaker/presenter invited into the diocese. To make a report of such a claim, contact our diocesan Victims Assistance Coordinator, Roberta Smith. She can be reached at a secure phone line (509) 353-0442 or by cellphone at (509) 998-8340. You may also log on to www.DioceseofSpokane.org and click on the “Office of Victims Assistance” link. All accusations should also be independently reported to law enforcement.
